Extended Protection Program

The Cost of Repairs

Peter Martin Appliances, Heating & Cooling believes that buying an extended protection plan (EPP) when purchasing a new appliance or home comfort system is more important now than it was ever in the past. Due to increased costs for parts and labour, a single repair can easily exceed $300 to $400.

  • Service Call Rates

Currently our service call rate is $129.95 plus tax alone.

  • Precision Components

Parts can run $50 to $150 for minor sensors and small relay boards, while major electronic components can be $300 to $1000.

Additionally, manufacturers are rarely providing special concessions on failures outside of their coverage when something unusually expensive fails earlier than expected. On top of this, calling the manufacturers, you can expect long wait times and agents that are trained to say no and even say you should have bought extended warranty.

We are not in the business of selling our customers products that are not needed but consistently we see our customers gaining great value from our EPPs, which is why we find it important to not only offer them but encourage it! They allow us to support our customers to a greater extent when we can pull from a fund that is outside our normal day to day business and we firmly believe that EPPs are a mutual benefit for us and our consumers.

Generally appliance manufacturers only provide a full one year labour concessions while home comfort manufacturers will provide 5 to 10 year parts only coverage.

What Makes Ours Different?

Extended warranty programs are not created equally in the market. Most places are selling you a piece of paper from a third party that you will need to contact a 1-800 number to reach after you read through the pages of fine print and limitations. On top of that, they use agents to attend to your issues that are typically under paid, under trained and have no reason to offer you efficient and friendly service. Wait times can vary but a few weeks for the first trip and usually a second trip for repair which can take the same amount if not longer.

What makes ours different you might be asking yourselves, below are a few of the reasons:

Self-Servicing Retailer

Peter Martins is the only self-servicing appliance retailer in the area. That means, if you have any issues under manufacturer warranty (Whirlpool brands excluded), it is an employee of our company that will be at your house to resolve your issue. No third parties, No sub-contractors.

Self-Servicing Dealer

48‑Hour Arrival

We pride ourselves on arriving at your house within 48 hours (business days) of your initial call to assess the issues you are having.

No 1-800 Numbers

No 1-800 numbers, call our store, talk to our staff, and in some cases we can even help you resolve your issue on the phone. No wasted time for you to be at home for us to arrive.

Clear Terms and Conditions

Finally, we do have limitations (terms and condition) on what is covered, which you will see below. The big difference is you don’t need a law degree to understand it and it will only take you a few minutes to read through.

  • Easy to Understand
  • Fast to Review
  • No Fine Print Maze

Our Commitment to You

We hope you now understand, why our salespeople will offer it to you and why we truly hope you not only consider it but buy it.

We want to help our customers throughout the life of products bought here and this allows us to achieve that in the days of shorter overall life spans and more repairs in those. Not purchasing could lead to more money you will need to spend even at two or three years old.

Terms and Conditions

Peter Martin Appliances agrees that when the extended protection plan (EPP) is included with the sale of the appliance(s), we will cover the service call, labour and parts for the appliance listed with the invoice, if below conditions are met.

  • In the event that the appliance is used in any application other than a single family dwelling, your EPP will be void. Examples are but not limited to, daycares, laundromat, nursing homes, multi-unit residential, rooming house, student housing etc.
  • The EPP covers all functional components, labour and service call rate not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty provided with the appliance. The EPP goes into effect the day the manufacturer warranty ends which is based on the delivery day of the appliance.
  • The EPP is void if any person(s) services the product other than an employee of Peter Martin Appliances, Heating & Cooling.
  • The EPP is not to be sold outside our service boundary. The address on the original invoice is the only location that in house service will be provided. If product is moved to an area outside our boundary, the product will be required to be bought to our shop at 140 Hester St, Hamilton, Ontario, L9A 2N8. Any moving costs are not covered under EPPs. If our technician determines damage or failures were caused by moving of the product to a new location or our shop, the EPP will be voided.
  • The EPP does not cover any liability, harm to person whatsoever. Damage to surrounding property including but not limited to cabinetry, floors, ceilings and other structures or objects around the product. Food loss is not covered by the EPP.
  • In the event that a part is backordered by the manufacturer for an extended period of time, Peter Martin Appliances, Heating & Cooling will do its best to track and find a part with the shortest arrival time. We will not use aftermarket parts to resolve the issue unless directed by the manufacturer as the only solution and its safe to do so. If the product is not functional and we deem the backordered part may not arrive, we may conclude the unit is not repairable.
  • In the event the parts are not available or the cost of repair exceeds the value of the product then a pro-rated portion of your EPP premium will be refunded.

Exclusions

The EPP does not cover damage to anything external to the product itself. Any interior components that can be overloaded, including but not limited to, doors, shelving, knobs, handles, liners are not covered under the plan. Cosmetic issues to surfaces, rusting and paints are not covered under the plan. Door seals and rubber boot seals for washers, are not covered for leaks, mildew, or odours are not covered under the EPP. Any improper use, outside the direction of the user manual such as but not limited to, aftermarket filters, plugged drains, foreign items in pumps, blocked vents, improper installation, faulty connections or power supply are not covered by the EPP. The EPP does not cover labour to access appliances that require lifting or moving for service, for example, laundry stacked in closet, cooking appliances set in tight corners or any external items interfering with the products. Homeowner can either make the product accessible for service or extra charges will apply for a second tech or moving the appliance to and from our shop. Finally, the EPP does not cover power surges, floods or any other act of God.
